  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until dough forms.
  5. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into gingerbread shapes.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool before decorating.

  • Chill dough for 30 minutes if too sticky.
