  • 1 whole turkey (12-16 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove giblets and neck from turkey. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Mix butter with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. Rub seasoned butter under the skin and all over the turkey.
  5. Place lemon, onion, and garlic inside the cavity.
  6. Place turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour broth into the pan.
  7. Roast uncovered for 3 to 3.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes.
  8. Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer. It should read 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  9. Let turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
