A simple and hearty shepherd’s pie made with ground meat, vegetables, and topped with mashed potatoes. Perfect for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground meat over medium heat.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until vegetables soften.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add peas and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
  8. Dot with butter and bake for 25 minutes until golden.

  • Use leftover mashed potatoes for a quicker meal.
  • Swap ground beef for lamb for a traditional shepherd’s pie.
